About Us

We've celebrated over 30 years as a successful tile manufacturer and distributor. We have been producing tiles in Exeter, Devon since 1986, using a combination of quality raw materials, traditional techniques alongside new technology, and a skilled and dedicated work force.

Our Retailers

Original Style tiles are sold through a network of independent retailers. We have recruited these particular companies not only because they share our passion for tiles but they also share our high standards when it comes to offering quality products. At your local retailer you will find a friendly welcome and advice from knowledgeable staff, inspiration and the opportunity to sample products and discuss your individual needs with an expert.

A brief history

1986

Original Style was initially set up to develop tile sets for the cast iron fireplaces produced by sister company Stovax. However it soon became apparent that tiles were being used for more than just fireplaces, particularly in America, where they begin appearing on the walls in the luxury bathrooms of Hollywood stars! So a range of authentic Victorian designs were created on thinner tiles more suited to walls.

1990s

A Victorian floor tile collection was developed to complement the ever-popular wall tile range. The production department was expanded and in-house glazing and hand-painting sections set up. North America became such an important marketplace that we opened our own distribution centre in Boston.

We opened a local superstore in Exeter to sell 'seconds', tiles that do not quite meet our rigorous standards for first class products.

In 1997 we acquired The Winchester Tile Company, to add a range of hand crafted, transparent glazed tiles and mouldings to our burgeoning product portfolio. The acquisition added slip casting and wet clay pressing equipment and more kilns to the production department.

2000s

The company continued to grow by offering new ranges of products such as natural stone, glass and mosaics to our customers in many countries. Our skilled workforce continue to produce quantities of ceramic tiles and mouldings to a consistently high finish thanks to meticulous quality control and the use of the latest tile production technology. The second superstore was opened in Plympton.

2010s

In 2010 we acquired and relaunched the Dorset Woolliscroft floor tile collection. These slip resistant floor tiles offer exceptional performance and safety standards for industrial, commercial, residential and leisure installations.

In 2015 we opened another showroom, this time in Cheltenham. It has a distinctive and high quality offering to suit all budgets. An 8 metre long colour wall contains more than 1000 samples from all ranges, allowing you to compare tiles by colour to find the perfect shade.

Present

You can now choose from large collections of glass, ceramic and porcelain wall and floor tiles in traditional sizes and large formats, mosaics made from materials ranging from shell, stone, glass, metal, even wood and bamboo. The latest ink-jet technology means that some of our porcelain floor tile designs accurately resemble cement, wood and stone.

The Future…

We are committed to maintaining the superior quality of our popular traditional and contemporary ranges, and developing new and exciting products to ensure a wide and ever changing choice for all of our customers.
