A to Z of tiles - A is for aged

We firmly believe there’s more to tiles than meets the eye and that using these materials can transform the look and feel of your home – beyond the kitchen and bathroom. As part of a new series, we’ll be taking a look at all aspects of tiles, from style to installation, materials and design advice, starting from A and ending up at Z.

The first of these is aged tiles (or antique if you prefer). As the trend for the industrial look holds momentum, we've noticed a surge in the popularity of our products that feature a distressed or aged look. Here are some of our most popular tiles:

Metallic Steel effect porcelain tiles

These tiles (shown top) are a fantastic addition to our Tileworks collection. Made from hardwearing glazed porcelain, they feature a gorgeous metallic effect that gives the impression of aged metal. Also available in a copper version (another trend that isn't going anywhere) they can add warmth and a touch of urban chic to any home. What's more, they're suitable for walls and floors.

Antique mirror glass tiles

If you saw last week's blog, you'll already know that we adore the beauty of reflective effects and these glass tiles with an aged effect are an excellent choice for bouncing light around your space, whilst the smokey finish of the glass will soften the look. Use in a bathroom or as a kitchen splashback to draw focus to one key area.

Rustic tumbled stone tiles

Stone tiles, whilst naturally millions of years old, can look quite contemporary if you choose a polished variety. However, tumbled versions or those with unfilled holes and chipped edges feel as if they have aged gracefully and can add warmth and depth to traditional and modern interiors alike. Use on the floor in a range of patterns - try a mix of sizes or a brickbond effect.
