Black & white – the timeless appeal of a monochrome scheme

There are few colour combinations that have as wide reaching and universal appeal as black and white. Whatever your chosen style - glamourous, modern, traditional, Scandinavian or understated - you can achieve it using these tones. Used alone, black and white can create a striking and bold impression, or it works well as a base for brighter pops of accent colour.
We've noticed a definite move towards bold interiors, with homeowners proving to have gained much more confidence with using striking pattern. Doing so in a black and white palette is one of the safest (but chicest) ways to inject personality as it's a classic combination that won't date. It can lend itself to both modern and traditional interiors, and we've also noticed that homeowners are keen to update very traditional patterns by using monochrome hues, as with this path (shown right) by Tile & Flooring, Bath. Just take a look at some of our new geometric Victorian floor tile patterns to see what we mean.
If you feel that black and white might be a little stark for you, add some warm wood or metallic tones to warm it up. A realistic wood effect floor tile looks great in a kitchen when paired with a patterned black and white splashback tile.
Using black and white can also allow you to go a bit wild with something a little different- Zebra print anyone?!
