For too long, tiles have been relegated to traditional spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms. Whilst these are undoubtedly logical places to use practical tiles, evolution in design and materials means that now, more than ever, tiles are suited to use all over the home.
Suitable for living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, bedrooms… in fact just about anywhere, porcelain wood effect tiles have come on leaps and bounds and are now almost impossible to tell from the real thing. You might wonder why you would use wood effect tiles rather than real wood, and the answer is simple: porcelain tiles look just as gorgeous as genuine wood but are far more practical and hard wearing if you have pets or particularly boisterous children. It can be a problem to install real wood due to concerns such as scratching or water damage and porcelain is a much tougher material and able to cope better with rough treatment. If you’re worried about tiles feeling cold, bear in mind that porcelain can be used with underfloor heating to guarantee your toes stay toasty year round.
And what about the bedroom? Whilst it might not have crossed your mind to use tiles to decorate your sleeping quarters, they undoubtedly look stunning in this setting. Tiles are a gorgeous way of adding style and decoration, so use them like you would wallpaper and opt for a super glossy, warm shade or vibrant patterns to create a feature wall. Use a complementary shade in the same palette on the floor for a cohesive look that will certainly make the space feel welcoming.
