Gorgeous grey – how to use Original Style’s colour of the month
Grey – it’s so misunderstood. In England, we are perhaps far too acquainted with the colour grey thanks to our unpredictable and sometimes dismal weather, so it’s no wonder that it can be viewed rather negatively.
At Original Style, however, we think that grey simply needs some positive PR and is in fact a gorgeous, versatile and sophisticated colour that can be used in almost endless ways.
Grey can be warm or cool depending on the shade you choose, and is a good alternative to traditional white thanks to its neutral characteristics. An excellent choice for tiles, it can be offset by various accent colours; rich blues, bright oranges and deep reds go particularly well. A range of effects and finishes can make grey look different in various spaces, and thanks to its neutral properties, it won’t date.
Bold and elaborate designs could be overpowering in some areas, but when used in timeless grey the effect can be softened. Take Voltaire in the Odyssey Grande range, for example. Its bold geometric pattern is offset beautifully by its subtle mix of light and dark grey.
Another way to introduce grey into your scheme is by complementing a plain tile, such as white, with grey grout. This sets off the colour of the tile perfectly and creates an interesting and unusual effect.
Whilst it is a neutral shade, grey is far from boring. If you want to incorporate a grey hue into your home but crave a bit of glamour, opt for a tile with a high gloss finish such as Thames.
