Ideas for fabulous functional flooring

In this week’s ABC of tiling we're focusing on floor tiles. Whether it’s your hallway, kitchen or bathroom it is essential that the floor is hard wearing, durable and slip resistant. Our floors face the daily traffic of muddy shoes, friends and family, and mess from children and pets so tiles are a sensible choice.

Natural Stone from Earthworks is arguably one of the hardest wearing materials available. Not only are most stone tiles durable but their beautiful unique characteristics make them an appealing choice. No two pieces look the same and stone ages gracefully making for a timeless interior. However stone does require proper sealing and regular maintenance so it may suit you to choose a stone look alike from our Tileworks collection. Porcelain Coliseum is not to be underestimated; its realistic travertine effect makes it an ideal substitute for stone, without the maintenance.

Perhaps you're thinking about making more of a statement? Our Odyssey collection is perfect for this, tryRomanesque (shown at the top of the page) for a stunning hallway with a Moroccan feel. Ceramic tiles are also incredibly hard wearing and tend to offer more of a choice when it comes to patterns and colour and they don't require much maintenance - bonus!

As ever our Victorian Floor Tile collection remains a brilliant choice for functional floors with a wow factor. They are fantastically durable and suitable for both inside and out. Choose from a simple design, or go all out and leave a lasting impression with one of the more intricate patterns like Blenheim.
