Our predictions: hot interiors trends for 2014

Now that we’re well into January, turkey digested and decorations put away, it’s time to turn our attention away from Christmas and look forward to some of the trends predicted to take the interiors world by storm in 2014.
Whilst it may have been pipped to post as Pantone’s Colour of the Year by the highly controversial Radiant Orchid, we fully expect to see blue achieving top status this year. Versatile blue will appear in a variety of hues, from pretty pastels to dazzling jewel and deep inky shades.
Grown-up metallics such as smoky brass, copper and mixed gold and silver are what 2014 is all about. Understated glamour at its best, these hues work best when used as accents to draw the eye.
Dramatic and moody, dark walls are set to make a comeback. Black, in particular, will be a popular trend for those brave enough to give it a go. If you’re nervous, add a bit of sparkle to a feature wall with shimmery glass or reflective mosaics to bounce light around.
From prints on fabric and wallpaper, to strikingly veined real marble, this is a traditional look with a modern twist when used in bright white, polished stone. Our newest product, Viano Marble natural stone tiles (shown top), gives a nod to this trend.
Texture is set to be huge in 2014, with raised surfaces and tactile fabrics leading the charge (there’s even talk of corduroy upholstery). Surfaces with printed patterns that evoke a sense of texture also count, so look out for ink jet printed tiles that mimic materials such as wood or bamboo.
