  5. Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub

Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub With many of us now working and schooling from home, the way we’re using the spaces that surround us on a day-to-day basis has changed significantly. Pre-2020, our homes were predominately places of relaxation, socialisation and recreation and now, with the restrictions imposed in response to the pandemic, our properties have become more multi-functional than ever before.   Our Home Hub trend looks at creating spaces, within the home, that are dedicated working areas with décor solutions to motivate and focus the mind. It’s important that these spaces are created in isolation to allow us to shift between working and recreational zones so our homes can be used efficiently for multiple activities. It’s incredibly important that working spaces are kept separate and distinct for our own well-being and our Home Hub trend will help you achieve just this.   For those who have a spare room or ample garden space, the natural step might be to create a working hub by converting a room into an office or investing in a garden room or shed conversion. However, if such spaces aren’t available, adapting existing spaces is also something to consider. By sectioning off an area of your living, dining, kitchen or bedroom you could easily establish a working ‘zone’ that has its own office vibe in order to create an isolated feel. Our Pietra Lombarda tiles feature a subtle terrazzo effect which, alongside its large format, makes it a great choice for embracing the Home Hub trend. It’s 90 x 90cm size results in fewer grout lines creating an almost seamless, less busy interior space. Team Pietra Lombarda with our statement, palm print tile – Eden Hothouse – for a working hub that energises and exudes style. If you’d prefer to opt for a wall covering that’s more pared back, our Eden Pergola tile - as shown in the above mood board - is a perfect alternative for a more understated look.  For those who aren’t opposed to going bold, our Herald mosaic is yet another statement tile for capitalising on this trend. Featuring a combination of wood, stone and marble in a geometric formation, this tile has the right balance of industrial and natural textures for creating a distinctive, cool and contemporary working space Watch our video below to discover more about Home Hub and to see how you could incorporate this trend into your home.   Read more...
  6. Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021

Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021 As we look forward to 2021, it’s important to consider the impact that 2020 has had on our lives and the influence upon our homes. For many of us, our priorities and lifestyles have altered dramatically and it was inevitable that such a sudden transformation of circumstances would completely change how we look at and use the spaces within our properties.   Each year, Original Style forecasts interior trends for the upcoming year working with industry and in-house experts to determine what styles, designs and colourways are likely to be popular so we can look at our tile ranges and help customers choose products to best achieve each of the predicted looks. This year is a little different. As a result of changing behaviours and everyday life, we considered it necessary to look at evolved lifestyle trends, to further understand the new priorities within the home, so we could inspire the embrace of the new normal and help customers adapt spaces to better suit their interior needs. Working alongside our in-house design experts, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan, we’ve determined three key home lifestyle trends that research suggests will be of most interest to homeowners over the coming year. So, without further ado, let’s talk trends!     Sanctuary Sanctuary is all about creating a calm, safe and tranquil space within the home to de-stress and escape from the worries and angst that life can bring. “With the global pandemic having an impact on our mental health, it’s vital that we create an isolated space, within our home, which brings serenity and allows us to take some time out to focus on our emotional wellbeing. Our environments have the ability to affect the way we think so this trend is about creating spaces that instill peace. Think soothing, neutral colourways and nature-inspired materials” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “Textures also play a key part in this trend. Tactile surfaces with either smooth and glossy or structured and matt finishes will help create a cosy, spa-like feel within a scheme. You also want to look at adding a touch of opulence for a slight luxurious vibe, so reflective materials such as our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics and large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are perfect for achieving this” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Staycation Due to restricted travel overseas, 2020 has been the year of the staycation and this trend is all about helping you bring relaxing, holiday vibes into your interior décor.   “The best way to embrace this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations or coastal inspired retreats and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations and bring them into your home. Beaches and coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home that personify the natural hues of the sea and sky. Team with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “In addition to colour, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy materials to create bright, reflective spaces that bounce light around the room. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature iridescent qualities that not only provide a light-inducing surface but also mimic sea life inspired curves for the ultimate coastal-inspired space. Pair with soft woods and wicker textures to bring the look together” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Home Hub With many of us now working from home, the creation of remote office spaces has become a necessity and has completely changed how we use our homes on a day to day basis. “The Home Hub trend looks at working spaces and advocates décor solutions that motivates, inspires and brings a sense of calm – enabling us to work comfortably whilst creating a distinct space that’s separate to other areas of the home. Think urban jungle, bringing the outside in and cool and contemporary tiles with an industrial edge to create a working environment that has harmony and balance” - Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “When it comes to colourways, Home Hub is all about earthy tones. Incorporate various hues of greens and browns together with a range of surface textures and house plants to bring the look to life. “Our Living Eden tile range complements this trend beautifully. Featuring lush and leafy designs printed on a large-format matt base, these tiles encompass the natural, contemporary vibe of Home Hub and are perfect for embracing this trend” - Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style. Comprising of several smaller collections, The Living Collection offers a variety of patterned wall tiles with coordinating plain tiles. 9. New Victorian Floor Tiles in three, beautiful pastel tones!

New Victorian Floor Tiles in three, beautiful pastel tones! Our iconic Victorian Floor Tile collection is home to an array of colours, shapes and even decorated tiles that make up a wealth of beautiful patterns and this summer, we’re delighted to announce the addition of three brand new colours, Carnation Pink, Hawthorn Yellow and Spring Green!   While Victorian Floor Tiles are popular in authentic colourways such as Black, White and Red, recent years have seen a rise in more contemporary colours such as greys and neutrals which are perfect for creating a new heritage style. With this in mind we wanted to offer even more choice in colourways, so that you can create striking, stylish and truly timeless Victorian Floor Tile patterns in a range of fresh, new colours. Launching new additions to our tile collections whilst our teams are working remotely is new to us, and you’ll notice that the imagery is different to our usual collections. Instead of photographing the new tiles in real life settings, we’ve created a series of inspirational flat-lay style mood-boards and sketches to showcase these stunning new colours! Our new pastel colourways open up a whole new world of design opportunities, they can be teamed with existing colours to create patterns that are as subtle or as bold as you like.   Carnation Pink and Hawthorn Yellow We’ve sketched a simple Revival Grey and pink checkerboard pattern (left) in a porch setting, these two colours create a new dynamic but still have the timeless feel Victorian Floor Tiles are renowned for. As shown on the right, this subtle pastel Yellow shade offers a fresh, modern twist on more traditional buffs and creams. We’ve sketched Hawthorn Yellow into our popular ‘Blenheim’ pattern and teamed with a modern Crittall style screen to create a contemporary style hallway and add some colour.   Spring Green Greens have always been popular in interior styling and over the last few years, homeowners are opting for more mint, sage and pastel tones. 10. 5 Kitchen style ideas using tiles

5 Kitchen style ideas using tiles The kitchen is the heart of the home and often a difficult project to design whilst prioritising practicality. A great deal of thought goes into the look and feel of cabinetry, lighting, paint colours, furniture, fixtures and fittings, but does as much consideration go into selecting tiles? Many homeowners opt for paint on the walls to avoid having to install tiles, but this can be a false economy. Both wall and floor tiles provide a clean and hygienic surface that won’t be damaged by cooking splashes or constant wiping and can really enhance the finished look of the space.   Natural and neutral It’s no surprise that many of us opt for natural and neutral colour schemes; they’re simply beautiful and add a cosy feeling, thanks to the warm undertones of browns, creams and taupes found in a natural colour palette. These shades reflect the warm rustic shades of the earth and can be enlivened with dark leafy greens or coppers and golds for a touch of glamour. If this is the style you’re looking to create, it’s worth considering wood-effect floor tiles. Natural wood flooring can be high maintenance and subject to damp, woodworm and the scratches and scuffs of everyday life.  With the developments in ink-jet tile printing, wood-effect floor tiles now look as good as the real thing; check out the full range here. For wall tiles, white brick tiles complement wooden worktops, cabinetry and rustic furnishings perfectly. For a really organic feel opt for natural stone. Here, we’ve teamed Natural Slate in Burnt Sienna with Levantine ivory wall tiles for the perfect country kitchen in soft neutral tones, for that blissful homely feeling.       Keep it simple with Field Tiles There’s a reason field tiles have remained a staple trend in tiling and interiors for decades. They are a classic choice and simple enough to work in harmony with so many kitchen styles, with the option of different colours, sizes and finishes. The field tile has a long history in interiors due to their functional yet decorative qualities. Whether your kitchen style is contemporary, modern or an eclectic mix of both, you can be sure that field tiles will in, some way or other, work easily into your scheme.  Just take a look at the beautiful settings below that showcase how a simple field tile can complete a space. Installing field tiles in a grid layout is one of the most popular tiling methods, but field tiles can also be brick bonded to add an extra element of interest.     Be bold with a statement floor Flooring is fundamentally a functional design aspect in a room. It can often be overlooked in the design process or thought that functional needs to be plain to be practical. Nowadays this is no longer the case, recent years have seen vast developments in ink-jet printing – meaning beautiful patterns can be printed onto practical porcelain tiles! There’s a whole host of options out there from bold patterns (check out the Odyssey collection) to all sorts of heavily detailed wood and stone-effect tiles. For an authentic look, its worth considering Victorian Floor Tiles. There’s a wealth of patterns, designs and colours to choose from, all with the advantage of longevity due to their hard-wearing nature.  This means Victorian Floor tiles are perfectly suited to kitchens that endure high traffic, spills and the daily tread of busy families!      Experiment with layouts If you’ve opted for simple cabinetry or a more contemporary style, but you’re still looking to add that pop of interest, why not try tiling in a herringbone layout? Any brick tile can be ‘herringboned’ but it works especially well with ‘kit-kat’ style brick tiles that are long and thin. This is also a great way to introduce colour into scheme whilst including some texture and interest.    Feature walls The kitchen is the perfect place for a feature wall, especially if you’re looking for a way to inject a bit of personality and style into a practical space. You don’t need to tile entire walls, just the areas prone to spills and splashes making splashbacks a great place to start! Just take a look at our Mosaics collection and explore all sorts of colours, textures, patterns and shapes that are perfect for transforming a space. Shown below are Fable and Medine Mosaics, both made up of beautiful intricate patterns in a multiway of colours or a soft muted grey. For an even bolder look, explore our Odyssey collection, home to a huge variety of patterned tiles in a range of sizes.  If you still can’t decide on kitchen tiles, find your nearest Original Style retailer.
